Last Updated: 06/02/2026

The company behind an independent school which closed suddenly earlier this year has begun liquidation.

Brookes Education Group UK Ltd which rans Brookes UK independent school in Risby, near Bury St Edmunds, officially entered voluntary liquidation on Tuesday 8 September 2025. A winding up order has been listed on Companies House.

Norwich-based company McTear Williamks & Wood have been appointed as liquidators of the company.

Announcing its closure with immediate effect in July, a spokesperson from the school said “mounting financial pressures, including rising operational costs” and “unpaid fees” had contributed to it shutting its doors. “It is with deep regret that Brookes UK School announces its permanent closure, effective immediately”, a spokesperson said. “After exploring every viable option to secure funding and support, the board concluded that closure whas the only responsible course of action.”

David Rose, director at Brookes Education Group said he was “devasted” to see the school close. The closure came just months after the school unveiled a £1million revamp.
